Mtskheta

Mtskheta is one of the oldest and most sacred cities in Georgia. Located near the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, just north of Tbilisi, it was the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Iberia and is considered the spiritual heart of Georgia. Mtskheta played a huge role in Georgian history because Christianity became the state religion here in the 4th century. According to tradition, Saint Nino preached Christianity in Mtskheta and helped convert the Georgian kingdom.
